The week of October 8, 2026
Good morning, neighbors. This is the one we've been building toward all summer. You nominated your favorite local coffee shops, you voted in droves, and the results are in — the very first Daybreak Mug Awards belong to the community, and today we get to celebrate the winners. Grab your morning cup (from one of these, ideally) and let's hand out some hardware.
Drum roll please…….
When I started the Daybreak Mug Awards, the idea was simple: the big chains have their marketing budgets, but the little shops — the ones where the barista knows your order before you reach the counter — have something better. They have you. So I asked you to tell me who makes your mornings, and you answered with nominations and votes and some of the most heartfelt little love letters to local coffee I’ve ever read.
Every winner below was chosen by our community, not by me. The quotes are pulled straight from your nomination forms. Winners — these are yours. Re-print them, frame them, tape them to the espresso machine. You earned them.
Here are your 2026 winners. Congrats to all who participated.

COMMUNITY CHOICE — OVERALL FAVORITE
Citrus Park Cafe
The people's champion. More votes, more love, and more "they-know-my-name" stories than any other shop in the race. A mom-and-pop spot right off the Upper Tampa Bay Trail, famous for a Cuban sandwich, hard-to-find Peet's coffee, and a staff that treats regulars like family. The Cafe Havana is so good. Espresso sweetened condensed and steamed milk topped with cinnamon. Mmmm

"The people are so nice, and they get to know you… It's like Cheers with coffee." — Rebecca, Citrus Park
"BEST family-owned coffee shop ever. Every time I visit I feel so welcomed — they remember my name and my order!" — Gigi, Citrus Park
The Bean Bar
Tucked into Carrollwood and criminally under-the-radar — exactly what this category was made for. Voters came for the espresso and stayed for the people. Some exciting changes coming soon. Keep checking there Instagram and Facebook for updates. Horchata
Mention you saw this and get an additional 10% off.
"One of the best espressos I've had in the States — so good I buy two-pound bags to make at home." — Tal, Carrollwood
"The most delicious espresso drinks with the kindest staff. Can't express how much I love this place. 10/10 all around!" — Sasha, Carrollwood
BEST ATMOSPHERE
Perfect Press Coffee Co.
A cozy, boutique-feel cafe in Carrollwood Village that wins you over the moment you walk in. One sip and one look around and you're a regular. Horchata Latte is where its at. Go try it and grab a delicious pastry while you do. Don’t forget to congratulate them. 😉
"I discovered Perfect Press about six months ago — cute atmosphere, great lattes. Hooked ever since." — Kimberly, Westchase
BEST SPECIALTY DRINK & BEST PLACE TO WORK REMOTELY
Eclipse Cafe
A double winner! — and deservedly so. The Gunn Hwy heavyweight took home two mugs: one for the creative, can't-get-it-anywhere-else specialty menu, and one for being the spot where our remote workers happily set up shop all day. Sit by the moon and enjoy some incredible offerings. You won’t be disappointed.
"Great drinks, great service — my go-to." — Dan, Citrus Park
To every shop that got a nomination, and every reader who voted: this is what a community looks like. Thank you for making the first Daybreak Mug Awards something worth celebrating. We'll be back next year and hope to make it even bigger— start making your case now and always support local.
Voting runs from May thru the end of September

ONE LAST THING
The awards are handed out, but the coffee runs never stop. If your favorite shop won today — go tell them congratulations in person and buy a cup while you're at it. If your favorite didn't win? Even better reason to show up and keep them in business until next year's awards. Either way, we'll see you at the counter. ☕
Congratulations to all our winners. See you next Thursday. 😉
