Hey —
This week feels very “local Tampa” in the best way possible: smaller venues, neighborhood restaurants that are actually worth revisiting, and a surprising amount of movement around Citrus Park and Carrollwood retail spaces.
Here’s what looks worth your time over the next several days.
Local Music & Small Venue Picks
Friday, May 29 — Goth/Darkwave Night
📍 New World Tampa
⏰ Evening show
Featuring smaller darkwave and alternative acts including GRIZZ CLL and Vick Vapors. This is very much a niche-scene Tampa event — which honestly makes it more fun than another generic cover-band night.
Sunday, May 31 — Sokolowski Trombone Project
📍 New World Tampa
⏰ 5:30 PM – 8:30 PM
A more relaxed Sunday evening option with jazz/funk/brass-heavy energy. Good patio-weather type event if you want music without the nightclub feel.
Ongoing This Week — Community Performances & Arts

The Carrollwood Cultural Center continues to quietly host some of the best small-scale performances in North Tampa. Expect community jazz, local theatre, classes, and rotating music nights throughout the week.
Can’t-Miss Factor:
No downtown parking nightmare. No massive crowds. Just genuinely local arts programming.
Restaurant Picks This Week

Piccolo Buco by Cooper’s Hawk
Still one of the strongest newer restaurants in Carrollwood. Roman-style pizzas, upscale atmosphere without being pretentious, and consistently solid service. The squash blossoms and spicy honey pizza are still getting talked about locally.
Why It’s Worth Going:
Feels like a legitimate Tampa “destination” restaurant landed in suburban Carrollwood.

If you haven’t been yet, this is probably the easiest recommendation on the list. Mexican-inspired dishes with Asian crossover flavors, strong cocktails, and one of the few places around Carrollwood that consistently feels busy for the right reasons.
Best Move:
Go with friends and split plates — the appetizers are honestly the highlight.
Jeff’s Bagel Run (Worth the Short Drive)

Still generating a lot of local buzz. Simple concept done extremely well: fresh bagels, creative spreads, and breakfast sandwiches that don’t feel mass-produced.
Tampa Bay Brewing Company — Westchase

We are so sad to see the Ybor location go but we will still support the Westchase location.
Always reliable if you want a casual hang with good beer and consistently decent food. Still one of the easier places nearby to recommend to almost anyone.
Cook Out Expansion
Cook Out is officially expanding into the Tampa market, including a Carrollwood-area location using former Boston Market properties. Having lived in South Carolina for a short time I really think this place will be a hit. Worth checking out once open.

Why People Care:
If you’ve never had Cook Out trays at 1 AM after a road trip through the Carolinas, locals from up north are about to become extremely annoying about it.
Dale Mabry Corridor Activity

Multiple smaller storefronts along Dale Mabry continue showing interior buildouts and permit activity. Most appear food/drink related.
The vibe right now:
Dessert concepts
Fast-casual restaurants
Boutique beverage spots
Independent eateries replacing older chain vacancies
Citrus Park Mall
The newer NCG theater addition continues pulling traffic back toward the mall area, and nearby retail vacancies are finally starting to move again.
